What is Fabrications all about?

December 2010, and a group of quilters is on a retreat, chatting about the various techniques they use. Embroidery, applique, burnout, felting, soft sculpture...there was a very long list. Talking about  Coast to Coast 2010, where the highlight of the day was not a quilt related speaker but Leimomi Oakes and her talk about historical costuming with 10 models dressed in gowns from 1775 to 1945.
10 models from last year's Coast to Coast's talk by the amazing Leimomi Oakes. Not a quilt in sight, but oh the delight they brought!
And we realised - quilters don't live in a  vacuum - we are a part of a huge community of textile artists who seamlessly use a range of techniques and are passionate about all things textile. So, why not have an event that removes the barriers between techniques but brings them all together. And on that day, Fabrications was born.
We have invited other clubs - embroiderers, lacemakers, teddy bear makers, felters, the lot, to exhibit and sell their work, to tell people about what they do and demo and teach if they want to. We've invited our sister quilt clubs in the greater Wellington area, Wellington Quilters (Wellington City) and Pinestream Quilters (Upper Hutt), and it's a chance for you to see their work, have a chat and even join a club if you want to do so. Our own club, Capital Quilters of Lower Hutt, will be there of course.
And Vendors! If they sell textile craft supplies, we invited them. Many accepted that invitation.
Over the weeks leading up to the event, I will be blogging about special offers, classes, exhibits, news and information as it comes to hand.
So do stick us on your Favourites or Bookmarks, become a Follower if you do that kind of thing, and stay in touch!
